No time to do any holiday baking this year? Buckham West’s annual Holiday Bake Sale is scheduled for Monday, December 10th with doors open to the public for shopping between 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
All Buckham West members are requested to make a donation of either baked goods or cash to support this event. Please have your baked goods delivered to the Center beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Dec. 10th and those planning to donate cash can drop off money at their convenience. We appreciate your support for this important annual fundraising event.
Santa Comes to the Buckham Center
The holiday season officially arrives at the Buckham Center with the annual Hometown Holiday celebration scheduled from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 29th. You will see the arrival of Santa and some real reindeer, have a cookie and popcorn, enjoy special holiday music and participate in many family activities. This is a free event which is open to the entire community.
One change this year is the location switch of the holiday music by Mike Hildebrandt and Friends to the Commons area of our building. You can find Santa in the library. We invite our members and others from the community to pull up a chair and get in the holiday spirit by joining us at the Buckham Center!
Annual Membership Meeting
All Senior Center members are invited to attend our Annual Membership meeting on Wednesday, December 12th at Buckham West. Beginning at 1:30 we will hold an election for the Board of Directors and have our annual business meeting. Then following the meeting we will celebrate the holidays with refreshments. This is a members-only event and no RSVP is needed
Coping with Alzheimer’s Disease
Join us for another informative session designed for family caregivers who are caring for someone with cognitive loss. During our first session we gained a better overall understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
During out next gathering, scheduled for Tues, Dec 4th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. we will learn how to safely and effectively minimize the behavioral symptoms that can cause stress and uncertainty in caring for someone with dementia. In addition, we will
discover ways to help the person with dementia to maximize their abilities and independence toward an active and meaningful life.
Class presenter Vitaly Salo, is a Certified Senior Advisor and owner/operator of Home Instead Senior Care. Home Instead uses the CARE program, providing Alzheimer’s specific training for staff and family members, and promoting a caring partnership to provide person-centered care.

Honoring Your Choices
Advance Care Planning is a process that includes thinking about, talking about, and writing down your preferences for future health care decisions. Join us to engage in the process of advance care planning, learn how to choose a health care decision-maker, navigate the Honoring Choices health care directive, and have the opportunity to complete your directive at the end of class, if you choose.
Kerry Hjelmgren, Honoring Choices Coordinator from Allina Health, will lead the discussion which will be offered on Dec. 5th from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. This free program is open to public. Please pre-register by calling 507-497-3061 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

We have scheduled another afternoon of creative fun with Gary Hokanson on Tuesday, Dec. 11th beginning at 1:00 p.m. Please join us to create a Christmas themed project. No experience is necessary and we have all the supplies. $10.00 payable at the door. This event is open to public, pre-register by calling Buckham West at 332-7357.
Have you renewed your membership yet? Thanks to everyone who continues to support the Senior Center with their paid membership each year. You can pick up a new membership form here at the Center. Our membership dues for 2019 are set for $35/single and $60/couple. Please know that by becoming a member you are supporting an excellent, non-profit organization that provides necessary and relevant information, services, and programs to Faribault’s older adults.

- Mankato Lights on Tuesday, December 11th from 3:30-8pm. Early dinner included at the Pizza Ranch before the lights tour. $50 pays for the lights tour, dinner and motorcoach ride.
