Join us at Buckham West for a Mini-Pop Up Concert, July 14th at 9:30am. Although this is very short notice, we can’t be more excited than to welcome Laura O’Connor to sing for us. Laura is the lead singer of a group called Pop Prohibition which performs reimagined pop songs into the different vintage styles like jazz, blues, ragtime and more. As always, our Coffee and Music sessions are free and open to the public. We’ll also have free coffee and a cookie!
Great Courses Summer Session
You still have time to sign up for the summer session of the “Great Courses” series. Beginning tomorrow, July 14 at 1:30 p.m., Buckham West will launch another Great Courses presentation on the “History of Eastern Europe”. Great Courses is a series of college-level courses covering a wide range of topics. This program is presented by experts in the field and will be facilitated locally by Bob Irby.
The “History of Eastern Europe” topic was chosen because of the current conflict in the Ukraine, which is located in this region.
This program will be a video viewing and discussion format held in 6 sessions. Pre-register by calling 332-7357; free for Buckham West members, $3.00 for non-members.
Have you heard?
Once again, the Faribault Lions Club will be at Buckham West to accept your donation of household plastics. On Wednesday, July 27th between 9:30-11:00am, volunteers from their group will be on hand to accept a variety of household plastics. This Plastic Recycling Project is a fund-raiser for community projects. Once they have collected enough materials, they will be made into a bench made from composite materials. Below are examples of the plastics that can be used for this recycling project.
- From the store: produce bags, store bags and ice bags
- From your pantry: Ziploc and other reclosable bags, cereal box liners, bread bags and packaging overwrap
- From your front door: newspaper sleeves, dry cleaning bags and bubble wrap
The plastics must be clean, dry and free from food and another residue. The Lions Club will be in our building twice a month and members will be bringing a donation bin with them each time. Please do not bring bags in on other days, as we will not be storing them here.
A Visit with David Sauer, CIA Retired
David Sauer, of Faribault, is a retired senior Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer who served as chief of station and deputy chief of station in multiple overseas command positions in East Asia and South Asia.
Because of his role in that area of the world, he is particularly well-versed in issues that are currently happening with China and Taiwan. Join us on Tuesday, August 2nd at 1:30 p.m. at Buckham West when we will hear his insights about this situation and we’ll also hear how a local youth came to work for the CIA, what that career looked like, and what has brought him back to Faribault. Open to the public; pre-registration is requested
Buckham West member free; non-member $3.00
