Buckham West hosts classes for drivers 55 years and older. When completed, you may be entitled to a discount on your car insurance. The first class is for 8 hours (split up over 2 sessions) and every 3 years thereafter you can take a 4 hour refresher course. Class size is limited and there is a fee. The fee must be paid at the time of registration. Included in this cost are AARP materials and host fee. Open to the entire community.

Buckham West offers free blood pressure checks on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday at noon. Intrepid Home Care and  Faribault Senior Living provide the staff. No appointment necessary. Open to the entire community.

Book Club

This group meets each month to discuss the monthly book of choice. Members only.

Bunco at Buckham West

Bunco is a fun and popular game played with dice, lots of luck and a simple set of rules.

Card Games

Health Care Directives Assistance

Mah jongg

Date(s): Weekly on Mondays

Mah jongg – is a game of strategy that originated in China.  It uses small rectangular tiles stamped with symbols and characters. The object of the game is to be the first to assemble combinations of these tiles into specific patterns that make up a hand.  These combinations are assembled by picking and discarding tiles. Once you learn the fundamentals of the game, you will understand why people love it.

Medication Check-Up with Pharmacist Bill Boyes

A Medication Check-up provides a review of each medication (both prescription and over-the-counter) with discussion about the person’s medicine-taking routine.  The conversation is private and confidential.  Participants can ask questions and get tips on reducing or avoiding medication side effects, schedules, and more.

Meditation Practice

Join this on-going group meditation practice.

Meditation means turning your attention away from distracting thoughts and focusing on the present moment in order to cultivate a sense of calm and balance.  Anyone can practice meditation to find a sense of calm and balance that has benefits of emotional and physical well-being.

Out to Lunch Bunch

This group is for Buckham West members who are interested in trying different restaurants in Faribault and the surrounding area.

Senior Friendship Volunteer Program

Senior Friendship Volunteers are persons 55 years of age and older who assist seniors by doing the types of things that friends do for friends, such as visiting, sharing hobbies, or assisting with errands.

The host agency is RSVP; volunteers receive ongoing training and mileage reimbursement. If you want to volunteer or need a volunteer, contact Michael Maas at 507-450-1518.
